Couple celebrates 81 years of marriage: "There's no boss in our relationship; we both give and take"

Ron and Joyce Bond have celebrated their 81st wedding anniversary and a love story that knows no end. Their affection and mutual support have been unwavering during all this time, even though friends weren't sure if they would be together for long when they tied the knot.

What are the details?

Ron and Joyce are aged 102 and 100, and they're from Milton Keynes, Bucks. They got married more than eight decades ago and have seen many ups and downs in that time, but never considered splitting up or giving up on their family.

"We didn't expect to reach 81 years of marriage; we know we're fortunate to have achieved this goal. It feels excellent!" Joyce shared with The Epoch Times.

One secret of their relationship is the way they connect to each other. None of them leads or expects the other to go along with everything they do or say. Instead, they act as a team and face everything with less stress.

"There's no boss in our relationship; we both give and take," Joyce explained.
"Sometimes life is hard, but we can work through it together. And we look after each other," Ron added.

The couple said that it truly was "love at first sight" when they met, and they tied the knot at Newport Pagnell Registry Office when Joyce was 19 and Ron was 21. They had two kids, Eileen and Bill.

Eileen revealed that when the wedding took place, many of her parents' friends didn't think their marriage would last long.

"At their wedding, folks said it wouldn't last long; how wrong did they get that?" she said.

"My parents are an inspiring couple, to my brother and me and to their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. You only need to spend time with them to see they love and care for each other, even after 81 years," Eileen added.

The couple had a special anniversary party at ExtraCare Shenley Wood Retirement Village located in Milton Keynes, where they live in their apartment.

They got a shout-out on Radio 2 from Ken Bruce at their son's request and enjoyed cream teas and other delicacies for the once-in-a-lifetime occasion.

Ron and Joyce have earned the title of the longest-married couple in Britain despite the initial lack of trust in their commitment and devotion.

They looked after each other and never forgot how much they cared, even when they had to struggle during difficult times.

Their story brings back the value of compassion, care, commitment, promises made and kept, and the will to be together no matter what happens. When giving up is not an option, there is always a way to fix things. And Ron and Joyce have certainly found a way to keep on loving each other and making their family strong and happy.
