Godley high school graduate killed in ATV crash, sister and driver injured

An 18-year-old high school graduate from Godley was killed in an ATV crash that took place on Saturday, according to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

What are the details?

Payton Herman, 18, was a passenger in the all-terrain vehicle which crashed after going into a barrow ditch. The ATV overturned and then it hit a fence. The terrible incident took place early on Saturday morning, as reported by NBC 5.

The crash happened at about 1:19 a.m. on Bolton Road in Hood County, as stated by the Texas DPS.

The 21-year-old driver of the vehicle, Kayleb Erwin, was hurt in the crash. Herman's sister, 21-year-old Caitlin Herman, was also injured. The authorities did not disclose how serious their injuries were.

As soon as first responders got to the location of the crash all three were taken to Fort Worth hospitals. Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save Payton Herman’s life. He died because of his injuries.

A statement was published by Godley ISD after the tragic crash that ended the graduate’s life.

“We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of one of our 2021 Godley High School graduates, Payton Herman. We are so thankful for the opportunity to have had Payton as part of our Wildcat family. While we know the entire Godley community is grieving this tragic loss, please keep the Herman family especially close in your thoughts and prayers during this time,” the statement said.

The police did not give any further information about the way the crash happened or the moments before the terrible accident that marked families permanently.
