The Dallas police are actively searching for the driver involved in a terrible hit-and-run incident in Deep Ellum that took place on the Fourth of July.
The suspect is accused of trapping a woman between two cars. After that the woman was run over as he “took off forward and the victim was in the way.”
What are the details?
The woman shared the terrible story with NBC 5 from her hospital bed. She is still shocked how a night out on a festive day nearly ended her life.
“I'm my kids' only parent and it was terrifying to think that I wouldn't be there anymore. Because they still need me. I'm not ready to go,” the woman said for the news outlet.
She was the victim of a hit-and-run incident, according to the Dallas police.
In the surveillance obtained by NBC 5 the incident that occurred in an alley along the 2800 block of July Alley can be seen. A gray Jeep Wrangler was driving fast down the alleyway right before 3:00 a.m.
The car then crashed into a parked motorcycle, the driver put his car in reverse and then struck a car where the woman and her friends were standing.
“The people whose vehicle he hit were trying to get him to get out of the vehicle to do insurance and handle the situation. Rather than get out or even roll down his window, he took off forward and I was in the way,” the victim recalled.
As she approached the vehicle the woman was stuck and then dragged between the two vehicles.
“Once I was at the end of the parked car, I fell on the ground and he ran me over and took off down the street,” she said.
One other pedestrian was injured, but not as seriously as the woman, according to the authorities.
The woman had one question for the driver who took off without looking back after hurting her.
“Why would you not stop? I don’t understand how somebody could run a person over and not stop. He could’ve taken a mother away from her children.”
The car involved in the crash has been described as “matte gray in color, with a small lift, dark window tint, and large tires.”
Witnesses told the officers that the suspect had shoulder-length dreadlocks.
Anyone who has useful information about the vehicle or the driver’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Dallas Police Department citing case numbers 118126-2021 and 118127-2021.
