It’s been a while since teachers and all school staff have been calling for vaccine eligibility to be extended to their group. The wait is over! The expansion to all Texas vaccination sites has been announced and this will contribute significantly to improving school safety in all Frisco.

If you were worried about your child going to in-person instruction and risking virus infection, now there is added health safety.

President Biden has stated that the goal is for every pre-K through 12th grade educator, school staffer, and childcare worker to have at least the first dose of the vaccine by the end of March.

Who does the vaccine expansion cover?

This extended eligibility to get COVID-19 vaccine doses cover the following categories of educators:

  • Teachers (pre-primary, primary, secondary, Head Start and Early Head Start)
  • Bus drivers
  • School staff
  • Those who work with licensed child care providers
  • Licensed child care providers (this category includes family care and center-based providers).

Does this modify the priority groups for the vaccine, 1A and 1B?

No, it does not. The added categories will go alongside the ones already marked as essential. The efforts to vaccinate people aged 65 and over and those with specified health conditions that raise their risk of COVID-19 severe complications will continue.

Frisco schools will become a much safer place for students of all ages. Do you feel better knowing your child’s teachers and everyone else in school will soon be immunized?
