The sailing courses of Lanier Sailing Academy in Buford

Amy Cheribelle

BUFORD, GA — Lanier Sailing Academy has been established for over 51 years and earned many Outstanding School of the Year awards from the American Sailing Association. If you’re looking for a sailing academy, this one might be what you’re looking for.

No experience is needed to join this academy, since it provides a very basic course to start. With a certification from its beginner sailing lessons ‘Basic Keelboat Course’, you will be eligible to operate sailboats accompanied by your friends and families.

After finishing the basic lessons, you can join Passport Sailing Club to enjoy unlimited sailing to perfect your sailing skills. You can also get an opportunity to join club clinics and activities to learn more about sailing.

If you are a member, it is also free for you to participate in the “Free Coastal Sailing Program” onboard their Catalina 42 and sail in the Atlantic Ocean off the Georgia Coast with one of their senior instructors.

When you’re ready to move on to learn the more advanced lessons, Basic Coastal Cruising 103 is waiting for you. In only three days, this course will help you know the big boat system, anchoring, basic navigation, advanced sail, trim, and more. These will be the resources for you to step up to larger cruising boats.

The last one to complete your sailing lessons is Bareboat Certification 104. After finishing this course and being proficient with various advanced systems, including diesel engines, electrical systems, and plumbing systems, you will be able to charter a large sailboat.
