ATLANTA, GA - Former Cover Books founder, Katie Barringer, and Atlanta Sommelier, Jordan Smelt, launched Lucian Books and Wine this week in Modera Buckhead on the junction of Peachtree and Pharr roads.

Lucian, named after British painter Lucian Freud (Barringer's favorite artist), sells books about art, architecture and design, food, and culture in its shop. They also sell almost 250 bottles of wine and 15 glasses of wine, all carefully picked by Smelt.

The wines on Lucian's by-the-glass list change every three months. Aperitifs and digestifs, as well as a selection of classic cocktails like the Gibson, are available on the menu.

Chef Brian Hendrickson, who formerly worked at Cakes and Ale with Smelt, provides food that pairs well with Lucian's Old World and European wine list.

Throughout the day and into the late afternoon, lighter meals like fresh oysters, salads, and a Scotch egg will be offered with more substantial, shareable entrees like black bass with kohlrabi and mushroom broth and an omelet topped with caviar and creme fraiche provided in the evenings.

On Fridays and Saturdays, Barringer and Smelt want to start offering a special takeaway option called "At Home with Lucian," which will include a book from the shop.

Retail, shopping, cuisine, and wine are all available from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., on Tuesday through Saturday. While dinner service starts at 4 p.m. All payments will be cashless.

The Modera deck has parking available. Lucian will provide parking validation for up to two hours. You can get access from MARTA bus route 110 along Peachtree Road.
