His book 100 Steps with God: Inspiring messages to strengthen your faith, Volume 1 (Special Edition) is available for purchase on Amazon
What inspired you to write your first book?
100 Steps With God was inspired by pull quotes taken from messages (sermons) I have performed with Walking in Step With God Ministries. For each message, I pull 3 highlights from the transcript and post them on social media as pull quotes. I have witnessed consistent engagement from social media followers on these quotes. The book follows an idea to share these same quotes with a broader audience.
How did you come up with the title?
It is a play on the name of the ministry I founded ‘Walking in Step With God’. I think each quote could be perceived as a ‘step’ that we all should consider in our ‘walk’ with God. 100 seemed like a nice number to aim for, so I sought to find 100 good quotes from 1 year's worth of messages.
How much of the book is realistic?
Due to the fact that most of the messages I write are based on actual life events, the same would be the case for the quotes in the book. I aim to not offer advice or suggestions that i have not actually experienced in my own life.
What books have most influenced your life most?
Certainly, the most important book is the Bible, specifically the Everyday Living Bible from Joyce Meyer is my go-to bible. I really enjoy the enhancements offered by the Amplified Bible and I also enjoy Joyce Meyer’s comments throughout the book. They are very direct and transparent. Other books include Knowing God’s Will by M Blaine Smith. I especially enjoy the books by Lee Strobel including “The Case for Miracles” and the other “The Case for ..” books he authors.
If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Joyce Meyer hands down. She has been through quite a bit in her life and she has a way of giving it to you straight when it comes to faith and real life. I hope to resemble her straightforwardness in my own messages and future books.
What are your current projects?
I am currently the main host for weekly messages from the ministry I founded ‘Walking in Step With God Ministries’ at www.walkinginstepwithgod.org. The ministry is very busy as we roll out a new line of faith-based clothing/merchandise and our first capital campaign fundraiser. We also recently launched a mission arm for the ministry under the name ‘Bridge of Kindness’. This branch of the ministry aims to create a platform that connects persons in need with persons looking for opportunities to give. I am very excited about everything that is in motion.
Do you see writing as a career?
At the very least, I would like to write a new volume of 100 Steps With God every year for at least 10 years. I also have an idea for a similar ‘100…’ book for the ministry and a more personal memoir detailing my life as a software engineer and how I ended up in the ministry. So - at least a few books on the way!
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The ‘Special Edition’ of the book includes prompts that are meant to challenge the reader in a very direct way. I struggled many times if I should ‘tone it down a bit’ or keep it very direct. In most cases, I left the wording unchanged. I hope that the audience appreciates the context of the challenge as an exercise to challenge their thinking.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
How can readers discover more about you and your work?
The book is a collection of snippets from messages for the ministry, so the best way to learn more about me and my work is to visit www.walkinginstepwithgod.org and watch messages or follow us on social media by searching for ‘Walking in Step With God’.
