Author Q&A

What is your most unusual writing quirk?

When I begin a new project, I start with writing down a page of adjectives that I want to weave into the storyline. Adjectives are the heart and soul of my writing style. It draws the reader in by painting the character prominently in the forefront, allowing the reader’s mind to easily fill in the background.

Focusing on the adjectives I want to use, I’m able to create different scenarios for a storyline, ultimately choosing the one that I feel drawn to the most. From there, the plot, setting, conflict, tone, and point of view easily simulate in my mind. The theme will always incorporate a sexual undertone, as erotic poetry is the genre that speaks to me most.

Lastly, I create a playlist. It is then played on a loop during the span of the project’s lifecycle. The playlist allows me to become the character, which easily translates the story in my head, on to paper.

You can listen to the Only(Fans)Fund$ playlist I made on Spotify. Play it before you read the book to set the tone.

How do you come up with names for your characters?

For Only (Fans) Fund$, I googled, “What gemstones are more precious than diamonds?” A list came up. Alexandrite immediately caught my eye. Upon researching the gemstone further, Alexandrite is referred to as “emerald by day, ruby by night,” because it changes from green to red. Perfect. This is exactly how I saw the character in my head. I was able to represent Alexandrite’s transformation, throwing away society’s standards and judgement.

What was the hardest part of writing your author bio?

Explaining how my authentic self is incorporated into my writing, without sounding like a self-centered snob. I had a close friend look it over and gave me their blessing.

Do you have any writing blogs you recommend?

Check out Alien Buddha Press. They’re an independent publisher, who I’m under. Their roster of indie authors provides a plethora of good reads. The publisher is also taking submissions for new writers at this time. https://alienbuddhapress.wordpress.com/

Give a shout-out to a fellow author.

Kent Wayne. His writing style, and sense of humor, transfer well to paper. You can check out his blog here: https://dirtyscifibuddha.com/

What is your favorite genre to read?

Without a doubt, Greek mythology. The planetary system, gods, heroes, love, and lots of conflict? Sign me up! I read Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heros by Edith Hamilton once a year. That book never gets old to me.
