Brigitte Metzger Harding has been a Nurse, Teacher, Travel Blogger and Cancer Survivor- but her favorite title is Traveling Mom. She decided over a decade ago that life is short and she wanted to see the world. Brigitte and her daughter, Cora, have been wandering the globe for the past 9 years, world schooling, making imperfectly perfect memories and learning all they can while having fun in this messy world. In June 2023, Brigitte released her first children's book, Cosi the Adventure Buddy which is the first book in The Adventure Buddy Series, with more books coming later this year.

Author Q&A

What inspired you to write your first book?

I have been working in the travel space for years now and some common themes I see are that moms feel taken for granted when it comes to travel, or they feel completely overwhelmed at the idea of traveling with kids. I look at travel as a life skill. We don’t learn how to travel by going on one trip. So what if I wrote a children’s book aimed to familiarize kids with travel and help them take pride and ownership of it?

Do you have a specific writing style?

I like to tell a story while also tucking in educational tidbits here and there. The book can be read as a learning experience or just as a beautiful story!

How did you come up with the title?

It is actually a nod to my daughter. Cosi (co-zee) one of her nicknames and I’ve always called her my best Adventure Buddy

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I really want parents and kids to know that travel doesn’t have to be perfect. Going out there, outside your comfort zone and making mistakes is totally normal- in fact, it’s encouraged! Some of our best memories have been things that weren’t in the plans, like a missed train, or travel bloopers that we can look back on and laugh.

How much of the book is realistic?

It’s based off of almost a decade of traveling with children, so it’s semi realistic. I literally started including my daughter in packing our things from a very early age. There are many adults I give advice to on packing! So giving her a list of 2 or 3 items to bring me for her bag has turned into her being a much more helpful person when it’s time to pack. She’s also been carrying her own bags since she was 5 or so. She learned early that if you pack it, you carry it!

What books have most influenced your life most?

Quite a range! I would be remiss not to include the Harry Potter series in my answer. We just did the WB studio tour in London a few weeks ago and it was amazing to see how everything came to life. I am a big fan of the fantasy genre and love to get lost in a whole different world in a book!

What book are you reading now?

I have about 4 started right now! Priory of the Orange Tree is a beast but I will make it through it! Legends and Lattes is a cozy fantasy that is really nice to relax with. Lessons in Chemistry was recommended to me by a dozen people so I just started that. And I’m anxiously awaiting some sequels by Sarah J Maas, Raven Kennedy and Jennifer Armentrout!

What are your current projects?

I’m currently expanding the Adventure Buddy series! Cosi goes to the Airport is up next and will go over all the sights and sounds of an airport, going through security (who is that NOT stressful for??), going on a plane and more! She’ll also have a continued series where she visits different countries, as a way to introduce those countries before traveling with your kids there. I’ve found that knowing a little something about where you’re visiting, before you go, can help kids really be more excited once they are there.

How can readers discover more about you and you work?

My website is www.thesweatytravelingmom.com. From there you can find my social accounts, any freebies I’m offering, and the latest on Cosi!

Do you like audiobooks, physical books, or e-books better? Why?

Each for different reasons. Audiobooks when I’m at the beach or cleaning, ebooks for travel, but nothing beats cracking open a new paperback, getting hit with that bookish smell, and being able to turn actual pages!

Cosi the Adventure Buddy is available for purchase in print and ebook formats on Amazon.
