Q&A with Baby Dragon, the author of the new book of poetry - The Heart A Rose: A Masterfully Crafted Poetic Journey Through Lifelong Love
What inspired you to write your first book?
Ah, the inspiration for "The Heart A Rose"! It was the profound and eternal power of love for my wife that inspired me to pen this work. I have always been mesmerized by the complexities of relationships, the depth of human emotions, and the unbreakable bond between two people in love. I have witnessed love conquer all and endure through the toughest of times, and I felt a burning desire to capture its beauty and resilience in words. The poems in "The Heart A Rose" are a celebration of love in a few of its forms, a tribute to the power of affection that can transcend time and distance. It reflects the journey of a lifetime, a tribute to the ups and downs, the laughter and tears, the triumphs and struggles of a lifelong love affair. I hope that through my words, readers will be transported into my world, and experience the wonder of our love story for themselves.
Do you have a specific writing style?
Yes, I have a distinct writing style that is characterized by a deep understanding of human experience, an ability to evoke emotion, and an appreciation for the power of language. I believe that poetry is not just a form of self-expression, but a way to connect with others and explore the complexities of the human condition. My writing style is rooted in the belief that words have the power to heal, to inspire, and to bring people together. I strive to create works that are not just beautiful, but meaningful, and that touch the hearts of my readers in a profound way. When I sit down to write, my goal is always to craft pieces that are both impactful and thought-provoking, and that capture the essence of what it means to be human.
How did you come up with the title?
The title "The Heart A Rose" came to me as a symbol of the beauty and strength of love. Just as a rose stands tall and blooms with vibrant color, love has the power to endure and thrive amidst any challenge. It's a reminder of the fragility and resilience of love, much like the delicate yet tough petals of a rose. I wanted the title to reflect the central theme of the book, which is the journey of a couple's lifelong love affair, through all its ups and downs. The Heart A Rose is a celebration of love and its ability to endure and blossom, just like a rose.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Absolutely! "The Heart A Rose" is not just a collection of poems, it's a journey of the human heart and the enduring power of love. The title itself is symbolic and serves as a reminder that love is a delicate yet resilient force, much like a rose. Through the different stages of our relationship, I delve into the complexities, joys, and sorrows of a lifelong love affair. My hope is that readers will be moved by the emotive language and vivid imagery I use to transport them into our world and that they'll come away with a deeper appreciation for the power and resilience of true love. "The Heart A Rose" is a testament to the idea that love knows no bounds and can endure through any obstacle, and that's the message I want readers to grasp.
How much of the book is realistic?
I can say that "The Heart A Rose" is my heart on paper. The themes explored in the book such as love, relationships, and the human experience are very real and relatable. The emotions and feelings expressed in the book are universal, and many readers will likely see themselves reflected in our journey. The title "The Heart A Rose" serves as a metaphor for the delicate and beautiful nature of love, but also its ability to endure and bloom through the ups and downs of life. The book offers a message of hope, reminding readers that true love can overcome any obstacle and last a lifetime.
Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
The experiences in the book are based on my own life, specifically my relationship with my soulmate, my Baby Lizard. I was inspired to start writing because I wanted to create a special Valentine's Day gift for her, and what started as a poem quickly blossomed into a full-fledged book. She is my inspiration and my source of love and joy, and I am grateful for her every day.
What books have most influenced your life most?
The Bible has been the greatest influence on my life, shaping my beliefs and guiding me on my journey. It has also served as an endless source of inspiration for my writing, as I strive to capture the depth and beauty of its teachings in my work.
If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
George Orwell, Rumi, and Shakespeare have been my literary mentors in the journey of writing. Their works have been an immense source of inspiration and guidance in honing my writing skills. Their writing styles and philosophies continue to influence me and shape the way I approach my own writing.
What book are you reading now?
Currently, I am indulging in the pages of my own creation. As a writer, it's only natural to be my own harshest critic. I have discovered a few areas in the book that require a little refinement, as even the tiniest details are important to me. For example, I noticed a discrepancy in the usage of the words "when" and "what" in the opening poem. I believe "when" better suits the sentiment expressed in the final line.
Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I am not one to actively seek out new authors, as I prefer to delve into self-discovery and introspection rather than reading the works of others.
What are your current projects?
As an author, I am always exploring new avenues of creative expression. Currently, my mind is fixated on the concept of self-discovery and personal growth. To me, this subject matter is of utmost importance and holds a deep significance. Thus, I am considering penning a poetry book that delves into this subject, with the aim of guiding and inspiring others on their own journeys of self-discovery. I believe that this project would be a fitting follow-up to my first book, "The Heart A Rose," which touched upon the themes of love, emotion, and the human experience.
Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
One entity that has played a supportive role in my life beyond family members is God. My book is dedicated to him and without his guidance, it would not have come to fruition. This is a personal matter between me and God, but I firmly believe that he has been a constant source of support and inspiration in my life.
Do you see writing as a career?
I see writing as a potential career, but only if readers are receptive to my work and find it enjoyable. I'm not interested in pursuing a career in writing if there isn't a demand for it.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
As a meticulous individual, I acknowledge that there may be room for refinement in The Heart A Rose. I continually strive for excellence in my writing and may make alterations to the book in the future to meet my personal standards.
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
My passion for sharing experiences, not necessarily writing, sparked my journey as an author. Although writing may not be my favorite activity, I believe it's the best medium to convey the stories I have to tell.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
