The state of Georgia loves local authors and writers and has a rich history in supporting them. Being a writer isn't always easy, but for some it's the way they support themselves and their families and for others it's a hobby that fulfills them. When COVID hit, many writers groups, conference and exhibits were cancelled and have not returned, but there are still some great resources out there. Here are some great resources every writer or author in Georgia should check out.
The Atlanta Writers Club serves best-selling authors and authors who are just starting out. Their members include writers from all genres: non-fiction, fiction, graphic novels, freelance writers, poetry, memoirs and much more. There members include traditionally published authors, hybrid authors and self-published authors. They sponsor two conferences each year: the Atlanta Writers Conference and the Atlanta Self-Publishing Conference. Their membership prices range from $10 a year for students and $50 for new or renewing regular members.
The Georgia's Writers Museum pays tribute to central Georgia authors like Alice Walker, Flannery O'Connor, and Joel Chandler Harris by showcasing their work in three exhibits that explore their unique paths to literary stardom. Together, their writing tells the story of Southern culture over a century of time. They also offer an annual Writers Retreat.
The Georgia Romance Writers is a non-profit group of about 150 professional writers who are dedicated to bringing great women’s fiction and romance novels to the readers. They have an annual contest - The Maggies, and a regional conference, Moonlight & Magnolias.
