Twohey's Restaurant, affectionately known as "2EE-s," is a cherished family-owned diner with a rich history dating back to 1943 in the charming San Gabriel Valley. This culinary gem was born when Jack and Jean Twohey decided to open their first eatery on Arroyo Boulevard in Pasadena, CA. Back then, with just 37 seats, it quickly earned a reputation as the go-to spot for mouthwatering hamburgers, crispy onion rings, and delightful hand-dipped fountain treats.
During the 1950s, Twohey's moved to Alhambra, CA, where it became famous for its nostalgic carhop service, which delighted patrons until the mid-1970s. However, in October 2020, the restaurant found a new home in the picturesque South Pasadena, CA, and its fresh design pays homage to its iconic past. With a classic lunch counter, a soda fountain, a full bar, outdoor patios, and a cozy private dining room, Twohey's offers a warm and contemporary setting for all to enjoy.
Notably, the quirky "Little Stink-O" logo, featuring a clothespin and a tear, was trademarked by Jack Twohey in 1943. It all began when a woman dining at the restaurant exclaimed "Oh-Stink-O" in surprise when a fellow diner received a hamburger generously adorned with onions and pickles. This charming emblem is a testament to the restaurant's enduring legacy and unique character.
The beloved is thrilled to mark its 80th anniversary as a cherished family-owned local landmark and to celebrate this milestone, Twoheys has lined up a series of special events throughout September. All month long, they're mixing up specialty handcrafted cocktails, paying homage to the last 80 years with concoctions like "The Nifty Fifty," "Rockin 80’s," and "The Celebration."
From September 20th to the 24th, everyone, young and old, can indulge in an .80 cent mini sundae with the purchase of an entrée. The festivities kick off on Wednesday, September 20th, from 11 AM to 2 PM, with live music courtesy of Woodie and the Longboards and a dazzling display of antique cars hosted by the Trompers of Eagle Rock Car Club. Then, on Sunday, September 24th, a Family Night from 5 PM to 7 PM promises fun-filled activities for the entire clan.
