Christmas is just around the corner and many Americans will be celebrating in the company of their beloved dogs. This time of the year has traditionally been associated with family and good friends.

However many people are alone, not everyone has a family or gets on well with the family they have, so many will be celebrating in the sole company of their pet. The good news is that the pet enjoys the festive spirit just as much as we do.

According to Guide Dogs charity, your pet enjoys listening to Christmas songs, and they actually released a list of festive songs that dogs enjoy listening based on a survey of 1,000 dogs owners.

These are the dog's top five favourite Christmas songs.

1. "Last Christmas" by Wham!

This 1984 song by pop duo Wham! tells the story of a failed love affair and the feelings the singer has towards his ex lover.George Michael, one of Wham's members, tragically died on Christmas Day 2016.

2. "Jingle Bells"

Written by James Lord Pierpont in 1857, the popular Jingle Bells was first published with another title, "The One Horse Open Sleigh."

3. "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey

The ubiquitous Christmas hit since 1994 is a dog's favourite too. "All I Want for Christmas is You" has topped the charts in over twenty 20 countries, and returned to top the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2019.

4. "Driving Home for Christmas" by Chris Rea

Singer Chris Rea wrote his 1988 hit during a nightmare car journey when he was stuck for a long time in traffic with his wife.

5. "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" by Wizzard

The 1973 Christmas song by glam rock band Wizzard has such good vibes that it is no wonder our dogs are loving it!
