Nazi Symbols were displayed outside of Tampa Convention Center on Saturday
On Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the Tampa Convention Center, a young conservative group, Turning Point USA Student Action Summit was having a conference.
Many Republican leaders spoke at the convention, including Florida Governor Ron De Santis, Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Josh Hawley, Fox News's Laura Ingraham, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Sen. Rick Scott, and Rep. Matt Gaetz, and former President Donald Trump.
Hours before Trump spoke a group of neo-Nazis called the Goyim Defense League gathered to demonstrate flying swastika flags and nazi emblems and "DeSantis Country" right outside of the Tampa Convention Center. The Goyim Defense League was also passing out flyers stating that Jews were responsible for abortions.
The Goyim Defense League appears to blame almost every issue they don't agree with on Jewish people.
Apparently, the neo-Nazi group came out to demonstrate after liberal protesters were demonstrating due to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The two groups eventually clashed on Saturday night.
Who is Goyim Defense League
Goyim Defense League (GDL) is a small network of virulently antisemitic provocateurs led by Jon Minadeo II of Petaluma, California. GDL parodies the Anti-Defamation League’s name and logo by replacing “Anti-Defamation” with “Goyim Defense” -- “Goyim” being a disparaging Yiddish and Hebrew word for non-Jews. source: https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounder/goyim-defense-league
Condemning the Demonstration
The Florida Holocaust Museum in Tampa, Florida released this message on social media:
Openly and proudly displaying genocidal symbols is a direct threat to the Jewish community. Carrying the Nazi flag, or that of the SS, the organization responsible for some of the worst atrocities of the Holocaust, is an indefensible act of pure hatred.
This isn’t about politics or religion. It’s about humanity. The Florida Holocaust Museum calls upon everyone, Jew and non-Jew, regardless of political affiliation, to condemn this blatant antisemitism in the strongest possible terms. This should matter to everyone.
When antisemitic incidents occur that leverage chilling Nazi symbols, we are reminded of the importance of The Florida Holocaust Museum’s mission to preserve the memory of the Holocaust while educating future generations to prevent antisemitism and hatred of all kinds. We will not be deterred.
I'm currently in another country for the Summer and It's unfortunate that someone who is not from Tampa tells you how racist Tampa seems to be due to seeing this neo-Nazi demonstration on the world news. I hate that this happened in Tampa. There's a reason I needed to get away.
The news is just now starting to hit more outlets and people are calling for more republican leaders to condemn the neo-Nazi demonstration.
