FAMU Ranks as Third Best HBCU for 2021

College Consensus Ranked the Best Historically Black Colleges & Universities for 2021 and Florida A&M University is in the top three of 50 that made the list.


College Consensus, a unique college rating website that aggregates publisher rankings and student reviews, has published its annual ranking of the Best Historically Black Colleges and Universities for 2021 at https://www.collegeconsensus.com/rankings/best-hbcu/

Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University, widely known as Florida A&M or FAMU is a historically Black college in Tallahassee Florida founded in 1887 with its original name, State Normal College for Colored Students. https://www.famu.edu/. Florida A&M University is Florida's only public HBCU.

Florida A&M University enrolls nearly 11,000 students from the United States and more than 70 countries such as India, Egypt, Trinidad, Netherlands, China, Bahamas, Jamaica, and Brazil.

Florida A&M University offers 54 bachelor’s degrees, 29 master’s degrees, three professional degrees, and 12 doctoral degrees.

FAMU's main campus comprises 156 buildings spread over 422 acres atop the highest of Tallahassee’s seven hills. The university also has several satellite campuses including a site in Orlando where the College of Law is located and sites in Miami, Jacksonville, and Tampa for its pharmacy program.

The top three Best Historically Black Colleges and Universities for 2021 are (1) Spelman College, (2) Howard University, and (3) Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.

Florida A&M University, although ranked higher than the others is not the only Florida Historically Black College and University that made the Best HBCU list. Of the four HBCU's in Florida, only Edward Waters College in Jacksonville did not rank in the top 50.

Two other Florida HBCU's that did make the list:

FMU began as a training school for children and ministers and was founded in 1879.

B-CU was founded in 1904 under its original name, The Daytona Educational and Industrial Training School for Negro Girls is a Florida private university.
