PHOENIX, AZ — Musical Instrument Museum offers free resources for music educators and students in order to provide wider musical knowledge and exploration virtually. Resources also utilize educators and students in applying interactive learning activities and methods.
All four accessible lessons are :
1. Musical Menagerie: Asia
Available for Grades K–2. It discusses Asia's music history and culture, highlighting several areas like Indonesia, India, Mongolia and Singapore, and how the musical history differs from current Asia's musical growth.
2. Discovery Tour: Arizona Studies Yaqui
Available for Grades 3 – 5. It discusses the musical history and culture in the Southwestern United States and Mexico, specifically the indigenous Yaqui people and Mexican music.
3. Discovery Tour: Mexican Banda and Mariachi
Available for Grades 3 – 5. It discusses the musical history and culture in the Southwestern United States and Mexico, focusing on Mexican Banda and how it affects Mexican music development.
4. Silk Road
Available for Grades 6 – 8. It discusses the musical history and culture in the Silk Road countries such as Azerbaijan, Iran, and China, and the practice of cultural diffusion that combines various ideas, musical instruments, and cultural practices from multiple regions.
In order to give active learning practice and exploration through museum tours, the Musical Instrument Museum also provides educators and teachers with accessible Activity Sheet for Field Trips that are available on various topics.
Musical Instrument Museum also offers the curriculum for three levels: Early Childhood, Elementary School and Middle and High School.
For Early Childhood, the curriculum included are English Language Arts, Arts Integrated Movement and Math and Visual Arts. For Elementary School, Middle and High School, the curriculum included are global classroom development and STEM's: How Science Brings Music to Life.
