As we all know, millions of large birds have been roaming the earth for thousands of years. However, most people are unaware that such large species are still living around us, and today, we will discuss one bird called the shoebill stork.
The shoebill stork is the most terrifying bird on the planet, and when that giant bird picture came across on the internet, many people assumed that some person was sitting in a costume while others thought this was the massive statue.
The shoebill stork is one of the biggest and scariest-looking species on the planet. It stands at the unnerving average height of four and a half feet with an eight-foot wingspan, and its seven-inch beak can easily tear through a six-foot lungfish.
They also have long, thin legs with large feet, which are suitable for walking on the plants in the freshwater marshes and swamps of East Africa, from Ethiopia through South Sudan to Zambia.
Shoebills can stay motionless for hours like a statue, so when an unlucky lungfish comes up for air, it may not detect this terrible prehistoric-looking bird looming until it's too late.
The birds use a hunting method known as "collapsing," in which they lunge or fall forward on their victim.
These birds are long-lived, living for more than 35 years, and the prehistoric appearance of these birds has often brought comparisons with dinosaurs.
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature estimates that only 3,300 and 5,300 adult shoebills are left in the world, and the population is decreasing.
