As we all know, consumers from all around the country continue to suffer from the effects of high inflation. For example, gas and food prices are still rising in North Carolina compared to the previous year. So, due to the cost of living crisis, millions of eligible residents in North Carolina could receive another stimulus check.

Residents in North Carolina face financial trouble, so North Carolina Senate Democrats proposed a new gas tax rebate plan to provide some money to residents' bank accounts.

According to a new plan proposed by North Carolina Senate Democrats, drivers in the state would get a $200 one-time gas tax rebate.

North Carolina Senate Democrats proposed a bill called Senate Bill 897 on May 26th, which would provide $200 to every person who is 18-year-old or older as of March 31st, 2022 and obtains a driver's license. A $4 billion budget surplus would be used to fund this gas tax rebate.

The state Senate's minority leader, Senator Dan Blue, stated, "We need targeted tax incentives that put money in people's pockets and people who need it the most, and we need to do it now. And we need to do it in a way that does not hurt the bottom line of the state budgeting process."

The rebate would be given as a cheque or a debit card "as soon as possible," but no later than October 1st, 2022.
