Red wine has long been said that it was healthy and such diets as the Mediterranean diet, which is commonly discussed along with longevity. Well, studies have shown if you drink alcohol in moderation, red wine can be an excellent choice for its health benefits. Red wine is rich in antioxidants which fight off damaging free radicals in your body, one in particular called Resveratrol.
Resveratrol is a nutrient found in plants that acts as an antioxidant and inflammatory to our bodies when ingested. The chemical is naturally found in the skin of grapes, making red wine rich in the powerful antioxidant. According to the National Library of Medicine, studies show benefits of Resveratrol include but aren't limited to-
- Lowers risk of some cancers
- Improves cardiovascular function
- Lowers cholesterol and aids the body of ridding itself of it
- Lowers blood sugar levels and stimulates your body to release insulin
- Improves memory in aging adults
- Aids in overall blood circulation
- Fights tooth decay

The benefits of red wine aren't just limited to physical health either. Research has shown that red wine can aid in reducing anxiety and improving overall mood and clarity. In my experience, I can agree! There are definitely times where my anxiety was getting the best of me and a glass of wine aided in calming me down.
Please note that there are only benefits to drinking red wine when done in moderation. The recommended amount is 1 to 1.5-5 oz. glasses daily. If you do not drink, you should not begin. But if you enjoy a glass of wine here and there, you now have some fun facts that go along with it. Remember to always drink responsibly and enjoy!
