People seem to care more and more about choosing unique baby names. But with so many babies being born each day, that's a difficult task. If someone wants to choose a name no one else has, chances are the name is going to be a little out there.
That was 100% the case in this story. A woman found out her friend named her new baby boy Hashtag. She couldn't believe she chose to name her kid after a social media symbol. In fact, when she was first told the name, she thought it was a joke.
At first, she tried to handle the situation gently by saying she definitely picked a unique name. Her friend kept going on and on about how her child would be one of a kind and that it was a brilliant choice. After this, she finally couldn't keep it in anymore and told her she thought the name was ridiculous and that her child would undoubtedly face ridicule in the future due to this choice.
Her friend understandably got upset and said she was being unsupportive of her. Their friends have now gotten involved and are a bit split on the situation. Now she's wondering if she should've kept her opinion to herself to avoid causing issues.
Hundreds of comments poured in saying that she wasn't in the wrong since it seems like she was coming from a good place. Plus, most of the commenters think the name choice is ridiculous too. They're even trying to come up with nicknames for Hashtag that could pass off as a normal name.
All in all, a name is ultimately up to the parents to decide. But thankfully the child could choose to legally change their name once they're an adult if it bothers them that much.
