Hundreds of thousands of new babies are born each day around the world. That means even more parents are tasked with choosing a name for their baby each day (and I've heard that can be a really tough task to complete).
It takes some parents the entire pregnancy to choose a name. And sometimes even after the baby is born they aren't 100% sold on a name yet. But all parents eventually have to pick one. Here are the top 10 baby names for boys and girls in New York for last year.
Girls
- Olivia
- Emma
- Sophia
- Mia
- Amelia
- Ava
- Charlotte
- Isabella
- Gianna
- Leah
Boys
- Liam
- Noah
- Lucas
- Joseph
- Jacob
- James
- Benjamin
- Ethan
- Michael
- Oliver
Most of these names are classic names and have been on the national most popular names list many times in the past. Although parents are often looking for unique names for their children, it seems in the end they often go with a tried and true name.
Even so, there certainly isn't a shortage of weird or unusual names out there. In fact, when some people announce their name choices, it's not uncommon for family members or friends to try and talk them out of it. It's important to remember that while you're currently naming a baby, that baby will one day be an adult. And the name you grow up with does have an impact on your life, including potential job offers.
Do you like your name? Are you surprised by any of the names on this list?
