Living in New York is a dream for some and a nightmare for others. But U.S. News analyzed 150 of the most popular metro areas and ranked them based on value, desirability, job market, and quality of life for people in the area.
Several cities in upstate New York ranked on this list.
Albany, NY came in at #7 with an overall score of 6.6 but a quality of life score of 7.1
Syracuse, NY came in at #22 with an overall score of 6.5 but a value score of 7.1
Rochester, NY came in at #26 with an overall score of 6.5 but a quality of life score of 7.3
Buffalo, NY came in at #27 with an overall score of 6.5 but a value score of 7.4
These cities outranked other major players like Virginia Beach, VA (#30), Portland, OR (#36), Washington, DC (#39), Boston, MA (#44), and Nashville (#61). Some other cities you might've expected to be up there ranked near the bottom.
There are certainly pros and cons to living in New York state but if you pick the right city, you can find an affordable home in a great area.
Interestingly, in recent years people have been leaving New York in droves and heading for more affordable states or states with more agreeable weather patterns.
But this just goes to show that NY still has great places to offer!
