Be prepared and have an emergency plan in place
Hazy skies will be in place in Bend for quite a bit longer while a fire warning goes into place today at 3:00 pm and will stay with us until tomorrow at 11:00 pm. There are many fires around the region burning close to Bend so the need to stay alert and aware is with us. Starting Wednesday afternoon sustained northwesterly winds up to 20 mph are expected, with gusts up to 25 mph.
The temperature will be slightly cooler this week with Thursday and Friday being closer to the upper 80s; weather conditions will continue to be sunny and dry moving into the weekend. By Sunday, we will begin to warm up again and return to the 90s by the start of next week. Our lows will remain at or above average for the week as well.
Please be prepared for more heat and a possible incoming heat wave as we move into next week. The current sunny, dry temperatures are contributing to more fires and we can only expect that there are, unfortunately, more fires to come.
Currently, the fires around Bend are not yet contained and the Grandview fire is continuing to grow. The Bend fire department launched their Own Your Zone campaign that offers fire preparedness advice to Bend residents. To check out the Own Your Zone campaign, click here.
Remember, be prepared and practice fire safety.
