As of now, the Democratic Party has a reputation for being a party of older faces, with the likes of the Clintons, Joe Biden, Schumer, Pelosi, Feinstein, and others have defined the party from the 1990s to the early 2020s. However, this Democratic dynasty may be coming to an end as the old guard begins to retire.
Fortunately, there are many promising rising stars in the Democratic Party at both the national and state levels. For example, Vice President Kamala Harris is a younger face in the Democratic Party, and governors such as Shapiro Whitmer and Newsom have become prominent faces in the party on a national level. Additionally, Raphael Warnock and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are making waves in national chambers as well.
When considering who might be the most notable or important faces in the Democratic Party over the next 20 years, there are a few candidates to watch with great interest. First, I think it's worth paying attention to Stacey Abrams, who has gained national attention for her work as a voting rights advocate and her close race for Georgia's governorship in 2018. She has been mentioned as a potential candidate for a variety of high-level positions, including president, and her continued political activism and leadership will likely keep her in the public eye for years to come.
Another rising star in the Democratic Party is the former mayor of South Bend (Pete Buttigieg) whose name was also in the list of 2020 presidential primary. Despite not winning the nomination, Buttigieg's candidacy made him the first openly gay person to win a presidential primary or caucus, and his intelligence, charisma, and fresh perspective on politics have earned him a lot of fans in the party. He's currently serving as the Secretary of Transportation in the Biden administration, and it's possible that he could run for president again in the future.
Finally, I believe that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is another young and prominent face to watch in the Democratic Party. As one of the most progressive members of Congress, she has already made a name for herself as a champion of issues such as climate change, healthcare, and social justice. She has a large and passionate following, particularly among younger voters, and her continued advocacy and leadership could help shape the party's direction in the years to come.
