Tennessee Doctors Accuse Sen. Rand Paul of Misinformation

As Paul stopped in Nashville, TN doctors challenged his stance on COVID and masking

A group of Tennessee doctors affiliated with the advocacy group Protect My Care challenged what they called misinformation from U.S. Sen. Rand Paul as he stopped in Nashville this week.

The group was particularly concerned with Paul's stance on masking as it relates to preventing the spread of COVID.

The doctors issued statements directed at Paul and asked him to stop spreading medically suspect information about COVID transmission.

Dr. Katrina Green, an emergency physician in Nashville, said, “Most of us are ready to move on from COVID and are willing to do what it takes to protect our neighbor if and when the virus peaks. But instead of doing his part to help us get past COVID, Sen. Rand Paul is continuing to spread the misinformation that prolonged this crisis in the first place.”

Dr. Amy Gordon Bono, a primary care internal medicine physician practicing in Nashville said,

“Our public health officials, including the CDC and the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners, have the responsibility to protect the health, safety and well-being of Tennesseans and all Americans.  When politicians spread misinformation like this it endangers our recovery and lives.   Tennesseans are tired of the chaos caused by this pandemic. Senator Paul needs to go back to Washington and do the job he was elected to do by voting for the funding needed to fight the next health care crisis.”

The group pressed Paul to be part of the solution and push for a path forward:

Dr. Bono said, “We all want this pandemic to be behind us, but the way forward is to have robust plans in place, robust responses to COVID spikes when they occur, and a calm focused attitude that unites Tennesseans in that shared goal of public health.”
