Mountain Crossings at Walasi-yi (Neels Gap) Blairsville, Ga INFO AND Desoto Falls | AT Trail
Mountain Crossings at Walasi-yi (Wa La See Yee) aka Neels Gap is located in Blairsville, Georgia. This building was built back in 1937 and sits directly on the Appalachian Trail AND it's the ONLY spot on the AT that you cross through a man-made structure! How cool is that? Having many purposes over the years, it has been Mountain Crossings since the 1980's. This is a hostel, a gift shop/re-supply store for hikers, a mail drop, a shuttle drop off and pick up spot and just a great spot to get on the AT for a day hike! A quick 8-minute drive down the road is Desoto Falls Recreation Area. A great little picnic spot inside the Chattahoochee Oconee National Forest that has a trail to Desoto Falls. It has an upper and a lower falls. We only did the lower falls since our day was jam packed. It was a quick .25 of a mile hike to the lower falls. We went in the spring of 2022 and there were so many flowers starting to bloom, it was a great time to visit. Filmed April 13, 2022
