The Will County Executive Office will be hosting the Will County Fresh Produce Pop-Up on Thursday, June 8th from 1 PM to 3 PM CST at Community Lifeline Ministries. Community Lifeline Ministries is located at 158 S. Joliet Street in Joliet.

The Will County Fresh Produce Pop-Up is free of charge. Fresh fruits and fresh vegetables will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis at Community Lifeline Ministries. Please plan to arrive early so that you end up taking something home. We all need produce in order to produce throughout life.

Will County is partnering with the Community Nutrition Network, Senior Services Association, Meals on Wheels Foundation of Northern Illinois, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. Seeing that so many wonderful organizations are in alignment with the Will County Fresh Produce Pop-Up shows that the food given out on Thursday will be of first-rate quality.

This free produce is so important for households within the area because plenty of people are still dealing with the economic impact from the shutdown during the pandemic. The poverty rate within the state of Illinois in 2021 increased to 12.1 percent.

That percentage shows that one in eight people within the Land of Lincoln is dealing with some sort of economic issues. People are saying that they are all right, but more and more people are unwilling to admit to themselves and to others that help is necessary.

Although the free produce is a small piece to the puzzle, this piece is important because the pop-up will allow for many families to catch up on groceries for the week.
