Plainfield American Legion Marne Post #13 will be holding a Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29th at 10:45 AM CST in the downtown area in honor of all of the US veterans that gave their lives in order for this nation to remain free.
The Memorial Day Parade will begin at Ira Jones Middle School located at 15320 South Wallin Drive. The parade will then go east on Ottawa Street. The parade will then go straight on Ottawa into Settlers' Park. The parade will then end in Settlers Park where there will be a memorial immediately following the parade. Settlers Park is located at 24403 W. Lockport Street. The parade will approximately last for 15 minutes.
The memorial will consist of a wreath laying ceremony, a rifle salute, and bands that will perform patriotic songs. The wreath symbolizes that we celebrate the lives of those who have fallen in battle throughout all of the wars in American history. When watching the rifle salute, then make sure that you stand behind those who are shooting the rifles. The number of bands that will be performing is not listed, but the entire memorial lasts for about an hour.
From 10:30 AM until 11 AM, the parade route will be closed off to incoming traffic. Parking will be available at the Plainfield Village Hall, which is located a block north of Settlers Park.
If you have any questions in regards to parking or in regards to parking closures, then you can contact the Plainfield Police Department at (815) 267-7234.
