Last weekend was the first weekend of the year in which the city of Chicago experienced some good weather with highs in the 80's. Last weekend would have been a good weekend to go to downtown Chicago to go sightseeing.

However, downtown Chicago devolved into chaos when hundreds of African-American teenagers rioted in the Loop and near Millennium Park at the Bean. Fifteen people were arrested and two people were shot in the area Saturday evening.

Groups of African-American teenagers swarmed downtown and blocked traffic by jumping on cars and Chicago Traffic Authority city buses. Here is a quick clip of some of the mayhem that occurred over the weekend.

Newly-elected Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson gave a quote in response to the riot that this chaos will remain the status quo when he is sworn into office on May 15. He gives this quote even though about a thousand Chicago police officers threaten to resign when he is sworn in.

"However, it is not constructive to demonize youth who have been starved of opportunities in their own communities."

I do not understand why the next Chicago Mayor would make a statement like this because he grew up in Chicago. He was not starved of opportunities because he used the opportunities provided to him within the Chicago community in order to become Mayor.

These African-American teenagers are choosing to get active and to remain knuckleheads. They could all choose to go to the library in order to put sense into their heads. Instead, they chose to be involved in mob action over the weekend.

In the video, I do not see Caucasian teenagers causing a ruckus. In the video, I do not see Latino teenagers wreaking havoc. In the video, I do not see Asian teenagers jumping on cars. In the video, I see African-American teenagers rioting near the Bean.
