American Legion testifying on Capitol Hill on 3/29 and 3/30

The American Legion will be testifying three different times on Capitol Hill later on this week. Various bills in regards to helping US veterans are up for debate.

The first bill that will be up for discussion will be H.R. 1139, which is the "Governing Unaccredited Representatives Defrauding VA Benefits Act" or GUARD VA Benefits Act. This hearing will begin on Wednesday, March 29th at 10:30 AM EST.

This bill will impose a fine upon anyone that is involved with fraudulent claims of veteran benefits. In 2021, 65,000 fraud claims were filed. 56,000 of these claims were due to identity theft. The VA will never call a veteran in regards to benefits. All of the communication from the VA is done by mail.

The next bill up for debate will be H.R. 808, which is the Veterans Patient Advocacy Act. The hearing for this bill will begin on Wednesday, March 29th at 1:30 PM EST.

This bill is looking to ensure that there is at least one veterans patient advocate per 13,500 veterans. The more people helping veterans out is always a good thing.

The last hearing of the three will be on Thursday, March 30th at 9:30 AM EST. The final hearing will be about many different bills that will allow for veterans to obtain employment after their military duty is completed.

If you take a closer look at these hearings, then you will realize that none of these hearings should be taking place. The topics in these hearings should have been passed by the US government years ago. Protecting the rights of veterans should be an absolute no-brainer. These hearings are proof that politicians enjoy sending thousands of soldiers into battle while not endorsing the rights of these veterans when they come back from war.
