Starved Rock will be hosting Eagle Watch Weekend this weekend on Saturday, January 28th and on Sunday, January 29th. All of the special events for Eagle Watch Weekend will take place on both days from 9:30 AM until 4 PM CST.
Events during Eagle Watch Weekend will be held at the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center, the Starved Rock Park Visitor Center, and the Starved Rock Lodge Great Hall West. To ensure that you do not miss any of the action at all three facilities, you can purchase an all-day wristband to hop on the Starved Rock trolley for $4.
The winter time is the best time to eagle watch in the area because eagles do not migrate south for the winter. American bald eagles are able to stay warm because they are covered with 7,000 feathers. However, you will need to keep yourself warm this weekend by wearing the appropriate winter clothing. Temperatures will be below freezing all weekend long. Although you will be cold, your heart will remain warm throughout Eagle Watch Weekend knowing that Amy Cooper will not call 911 while you are out bird watching.
The best part of Eagle Watch Weekend is that all of the events are free of charge. All of the events throughout the weekend are listed here. The highlight of both days will be the Illinois Birds of Prey shows at all three venues throughout Starved Rock. Members of the Illinois Raptor Center will have presentations on both days with live birds of prey.
The Starved Rock Lodge is located at One Lodge Lane in Oglesby within LaSalle County. Make sure that you flock to the rock to see some live eagles this weekend before watching the Philadelphia Eagles defeat the San Francisco 49ers.
