2022 NBA Draft Review: Orlando Magic

Adrian Holman

The Orlando Magic ended up with the #1 pick in the NBA Draft after finishing 22-60 last season. The main reason why the Magic were so tragic last season was due to their roster construction. Orlando has too many power forwards and point guards on their roster. Hopefully, this trend changes so that the Magic can actually make it to the NBA Playoffs before this decade ends.

Besides the having the overall #1 pick in the NBA Draft, the Magic also had a second round pick as well. Here is a look at who Orlando selected.

Round 1, Pick 1: Paolo Banchero - PF - Duke. 6'10", 250 lbs (17.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.1 spg, 33.8% 3-PT FG%).

Banchero is ready to start at power forward from Day 1 for the Magic. His offensive skills ensure that he is the favorite to be the Rookie of the Year for this upcoming season. He is able to do work in the post along with scoring off of the dribble. Plus, he has the range to shoot from the outside. Orlando needs to feed him the ball early and often throughout the entire season. The Magic will also need to trade some of their power forwards now because they have 8 power forwards on their roster.

Round 2, Pick 2: Caleb Houstan - SF - Michigan. 6'8", 205 lbs (10.1 ppg, 4 rpg, 35.5% 3-PT FG%).

Houstan dropped into the second round because his jump shot was inconsistent throughout the season along with not creating off of the dribble as much as necessary. However, he should see some time this season because he is the only small forward on the roster.

Orlando, please trade some of the power forwards that are on the team. Grade: A.
