The Love Outreach Center will be holding a Human Trafficking Awareness walk on Saturday, July 30th at 11 AM CST in Morris, IL. The walk will begin at ReMax Realtors located at 101 East Waverly Street at the corner of Waverly and Division Street. The participants will then walk about six blocks south to the Grundy County Courthouse located at 111 E. Washington Street.
The purpose of the walk is to bring awareness that human trafficking can happen anywhere in the USA. One would think that human trafficking only happens at the southern border in regards to illegal immigrants coming in from Mexico, from the Caribbean, and from Central America. However, the state of Illinois averages about 200 human trafficking cases per year.
Matter of fact, four of the top 10 states with the highest rates of human trafficking occur in states that are nowhere near the US southern border: Ohio, Delaware, Missouri, and Michigan.
The US House of Representatives passed a series of human trafficking bills on July 23rd and on July 24th. The human trafficking bills will look to expand human trafficking prevention while also providing human trafficking victims resources to relocate and to have shelter. More awareness is needed so that more human trafficking victims can be rescued in this country.
The Love Outreach Center has been in Morris since 2019. The goal of the outreach is to bring more awareness to human trafficking while also providing relocation, training, and housing so that human trafficking victims can be rescued from their captors.
