Independence Day Celebration

Adrian Holman

The Village of New Lenox will be holding an Independence Day Celebration at the New Lenox Commons from 6 PM CST until 9 PM CST. The New Lenox Commons is located at 145-199 Veterans Parkway. The parkway will be closed off to traffic in the vicinity of the New Lenox Commons, but free parking will be available at the Route 30 Metra station. A shuttle bus will begin to run from the Route 30 Metra Station to the New Lenox Commons at 5:45 PM.

A concession stand and food trucks will be at the Independence Day Celebration. The two food trucks that are listed to be at the event are Smokin' Z BBQ and Tacos Maui. Smokin' Z BBQ is a food truck based in New Lenox. Their food options are phenomenal. They specialize in pulled pork, beef brisket, pulled chicken, smoked hot links, ribs and rib tips along with sides like macaroni and cheese, baked beans, cole slaw, and potato salad.

Tacos Maui is located in Joliet, but their food truck goes out to different festivals throughout the area. On their food truck will be tacos, quesadillas, nachos, and burritos.

You will want to get there right on time because Whiskeyfist will be on stage from 6 PM to 8 PM. Whiskeyfist is a band that covers classic and current country music hits. They tour the Chicagoland area.

The Joliet American Legion band will take the stage from 8 PM until 9 PM so that you will be feeling more patriotic before the fireworks. The Joliet American Legion Band has been touring the USA since 1946.

The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:15 PM. Their fireworks show is one of the best within the state of Illinois. Here is a look at the fireworks from last year's celebration.
