Adrian Holman

Lockport Township High School will be holding its seventh annual Veteran's Night Celebration on Friday, February 4th at the East campus at around 6 PM CST. The purpose of the event is to show appreciation and to celebrate the acts of heroic men and women that have fought for our country. Lockport East is located at 1333 E. Seventh Street in Lockport, IL.

The school is still looking for veterans to participate a week from this Friday. During the event, each veteran is individually acknowledged by name to the audience. After the recognition, all of the veterans hold a giant American flag on the court for the playing of the US National Anthem. We all need to appreciate veterans for their service because if it was not for them, then you would not have the freedom to even be allowed to read this article.

After the event is completed, each veteran and three of their guests will be given free entry to the high school varsity boys basketball South West Suburban Blue Conference game between the Lockport Porters and the Carl Sandburg Eagles.

Over the past seven years, the Appreciation Night continues to grow in its impact. Last year, around 150 veterans were in the building for the extravaganza. The organizers are looking to have more veterans present for the occasion next week.

If you are a veteran and if you would like to participate in this event, then you can sign up at this link. If you know a veteran in the area that needs to be appreciated, then please share the information with him or with her.
