Earlier today, the Union of European Footballers Association (UEFA) Champions League Knockout Round of 16 draw was held at the UEFA Headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The top 16 soccer teams in Europe will be matched up in a home-and-home series after Group Stage qualifying.
The event was hosted by Pedro Pinto with the draw being conducted by UEFA Deputy General Secretary Giorgio Marchetti and UEFA Champions League Final ambassador Andriy Arshavin.
The eight group winners and the eight group runners-up were picked to be in eight separate matches. A team cannot play against another team that was in the same group or against another team from the same country in the Round of 16.
The eight group winners are Ajax (NED), Bayern Munich (GER), Juventus (ITA), Liverpool (ENG), LOSC Lille (FRA), Manchester City (ENG), Manchester United (ENG), and Real Madrid (ESP).
The eight runners-up are Atletico Madrid (ESP), Benfica (POR), Chelsea (ENG), Inter Milan (ITA), Paris-St. Germain (PSG) (FRA), Red Bull Salzburg (AUT), Sporting CP (POR), and Villareal (ESP).
The first leg of the Round of 16 will be played at the home of the runners-up on February 15,16, 22, and 23 with the second leg being played at the home of the group winners on March 8,9,15, and 16.
One major change to the knockout rounds this season is that away goals will no longer be used as a tiebreaker. If the aggregate score of both matches are tied after the end of the second leg, then the teams will have to play an extra two periods of 15 minutes. If the aggregate score is still tied after the extra time periods, then the winner will be determined by a penalty shootout.
Without further ado, here are the results from the Round of 16 draw.
Benfica vs Real Madrid
Villareal vs Manchester City
Atletico Madrid vs Bayern Munich
Red Bull Salzburg vs Liverpool
Inter Milan vs Ajax
Sporting CP vs Juventus

The marquee match-up for this Round of 16 is definitely PSG against Manchester United because the two greatest soccer players of our generation will be pitted against each other. Lionel Messi will be going up against Cristiano Ronaldo once again.
