The Chicago Movies in the Parks series is in its last week for this year. This week will be the last week for you and for your family to catch a free movie at one of the many parks throughout the city of Chicago.
Before you go, please contact the specific park supervisor to find out whether or not the restroom facilities will be open. You would not want to find out when you have to use the bathroom during the movie that you are watching and discover that the door is locked.
Here is the schedule for all of the movies this week. All of the movies will start at 8 PM CST.
Tuesday, September 7th
Jumanji: The Next Level - Shabonna Park - 6935 W. Addison Street. Jumanji: The Next Level is the sequel to the remake of Jumanji starring The Rock, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart. The game is much harder this time around.
Wednesday, September 8th
Frozen II - Amadeus Mozart Park - 2036 N. Avers Avenue. You get to "Let it go, let it go!" once again in the sequel to the animated instant classic.
Thursday, September 9th
The Wiz - South Shore Cultural Center/Fieldhouse - 7059 S. South Shore Drive. "Ease on down, ease on down the road!" You can scream that to other people the next time that you are in a traffic jam on the expressway. This classic adaptation of The Wizard of Oz is so awesome to watch with Dorothy being played by Diana Ross and with Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow.
Hocus Pocus - George Donovan Park - 3620 S. Lituanica Avenue. Hocus Pocus has become a Halloween classic in which three kids have to stop three witches from becoming immortal. For some strange reason, Hocus Pocus 2 is in the works even though this movie was released in 1993.
Friday, September 10th
Trolls World Tour - Commercial Club Playground - 1845 W. Rice Street. A group of trolls attempt to take over the Troll World with rock and roll. This plot sort of reminds me of Disco Demolition Night back in the day.
Raya and the Last Dragon - Thadeuz Kosciuszko Park - 2732 N. Avers Avenue. Raya and the Last Dragon is a Disney-animated film that was released earlier this year in which a young girl must track down the last dragon remaining in the world so that they can defeat the enemies called the Druun.
Saturday, September 11th
The Secret Life of Pets - Bernard Eckhart Park - 1330 W. Chicago Avenue. This animated movie is about a group of pets involved in an adventure in New York.
Forty-two - Oz Park - 2021 N. Burling Street. Forty-two is a movie about how former baseball player Jackie Robinson integrated baseball back in the 1940's. Robinson is portrayed in this movie by the late, great Chadwick Boseman.
Tuesday, September 14th
In Old Chicago - Abraham Lincoln Park - 500-5700 N. Lake Shore Drive. In Old Chicago is a film made in 1938 that was based upon the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, one of the biggest disasters in American history. Fortunately, Chicago was rebuilt. Unfortunately, the city of Chicago is now facing another disaster of too many African-Americans killing each other in the Windy City.
If you do go to one of the movies on Saturday, then please proceed with caution since that day will be the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Please be aware of your surroundings and please remain alert while watching the film.
