While in Houston, TX I have enjoyed the options for restaurants, bars, and food trucks from a culinary perspective. While there are so many that remain for me to explore, today’s entry is the Peri Peri Ribs. I am aware of 3 local restaurants that currently offer peri style chicken among other menu features however this was my 1st time having peri style ribs.
A brief honorable mention as it relates to my introduction of the peri style cuisine. The Peri Peri Factory was my first introduction. An immediate hit, the style of food was bursting with a unique flavor that was both common with foreign flare added. Grilled chicken being a staple across of our popular dishes with the likes of a heavily seasoned sauce that shares the traits of a wing sauce with added spices unique to its own culture. In conversation with both management and guest as a frequent guest I have picked up the following in casual conversation as a patron. Their recipe stems from a blended culture of South African origins from of the management with a Portuguese inspired menu. One of the original franchises is Nando's. I have yet to visit one, many guest have made this reference and it is my understanding they have locations in South Africa, UK, USA & Canada.
Next is Port of Peri Peri, they have a location in Sugarland and on the West Side of Houston. I have tried their chicken tender dinner on numerous occasions along with their goat chops. Most recently I came across their ribs as a new menu feature. The gargantuan sized rib was an awe. The flavor from the hot style peri peri sauce with the basmati rice mixed with corn and carrots was delightful. All of restaurants feature a house garlic sauce based with yogurt that is pure decadence in my world and great with the peri peri style fries.
Mirchi Peri Peri all sharing the similar genre with personal flare added. I've have routinely enjoyed them all when conveniently in the area.
