Struggle is constant: You can run from it or learn from it

The only thing that is constant is change

Is the above statement really true?

As a kid, I used to be terrified during the exams season in school. Every year I would ask my mom if life will get easier someday?

Her usual reply:

Don’t worry son! Focus on your exams for now and it will get better after this one.”

I always used to believe that life gets easier once you get into a good college.

As I left home to move to a different city and start college, I realised it gets harder.

There is ample amount of time and energy, but no money to enjoy life

So I thought life will get easier once I start working. I was wrong!

College life was a piece of cake. The real world had just started. Finding a place to stay in another new city, climbing the corporate ladder, dealing with office politics, personal relationships — there is always something to worry about.

So, I thought maybe life will get easier once I get promoted a few times and become a Manager. There will be more money, less work and better status in society. I was wrong again!

The paycheck was not hefty enough, responsibilities grew exponentially and nobody gives a shit about your status when there is no time to enjoy life.

So, once again I thought maybe I will find contentment once I move abroad. It would be a nice change from the current environment with more money, a better quality of life and less stress. But the story did not change.

Over time, I’ve come to realise that life will never get easy. The only other thing constant in life apart from change is STRUGGLE.

Life is full of struggles and they will stay with you forever in one form or another. You can either embrace them or you can run from them, but you can never escape them.

The only way to be happy is to accept that there will always be STRUGGLE. Life will actually get “easy” once you embrace those struggles. Then you may be able to escape suffering and enjoy the journey.

Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional
