A ski-mask-wearing gunman on a bicycle shot and killed an elderly man in front of his wife on a New York City street early on Sunday morning.
According to police sources speaking to the New York Post, Marcelino Valerio, 80, was shot and killed outside 1209 Ogden Ave. in Highbridge at around 1:10 a.m. He and his wife had just gotten out of a car that was dropping them off close to their home. Valerio was coming home from a Sweet 16 celebration in New Rochelle, Westchester County, where he lived about ten streets away.
The culprit approached Valerio on the sidewalk while wearing all-black clothing, including a black ski mask, and shot him twice, striking him in the head point-blank with one of the bullets.
New York Post Obtained The Surveillance Footage
The New York Post was able to obtain surveillance footage that depicts Valerio's wife standing startled as two other terrified women run out of the car and frantically ask passersby for assistance.
According to the surveillance tape, the shooter could be seen passing the building in the opposite direction just before the incident and then turning around as the automobile arrived.
Police Are Still Searching For The Suspect
The suspect fled the scene after shooting Valerio on a bicycle, and as of Sunday night, he is still at large. Police have not yet disclosed the incident's motivation, if any.
The supervisor of the building at the address where Valerio had resided described him as a hard worker and a composed individual.
