In New York City, August came to a brutally violent conclusion.
Five children under the age of six were attacked or killed in three different incidents over the course of just ten days. In each instance, a family member or someone with close ties to the family is accused of attacking the young victims.
On August 23, Liyong Ye Attacked Two Kids And Killed Their Mother
In their shared apartment in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, on August 23, Liyong Ye is accused of killing Zhao Zhao with a hammer before reportedly attacking the 43-year-old woman's kids, according to the police. The two unidentified kids, a 3-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, are still in the hospital.
Ye, 47, is accused of murder, attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a firearm. According to PIX11, Ye had never been arrested and had no criminal history.
On August 27, Latrell Lewis Killed Nasir Parris, 2
Nasir Parris, 2, was allegedly assaulted by Latrell Lewis on August 27 at a Bergen Beach, Brooklyn, apartment, according to the police. Parris was unconscious and unresponsive when police came and had bruises on his stomach. He was eventually declared dead at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, and the Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined that his death was a homicide.
Lewis, 23, was detained and accused of killing. According to numerous news sources, the boy was the child of Lewis' girlfriend, and Lewis was accused of throwing the youngster against a wall when the boy woke him awake.
On August 28, Police Found 4 Dead Bodies, Two of Them Were Aged 3 and 1
In an Upper West Side apartment, the bodies of Edison Lopez, 41, Alexandra Witek, 40, Lucien Lopez, 3, and Calvin Lopez, 1, were found on August 28 during a wellness check by the police.
Despite these prominent cases, New York City's murder rate for this year is comparable to, if not slightly behind, that of 2022.
