A South Huntington, New York, dad who had encouraged his daughter to spend the night at his home pleaded guilty on Wednesday to forcibly raping her.
Raymond A. Tierney, the district attorney for Suffolk County, announced the 45-year-old man's guilty plea to first-degree rape. According to court records and the defendant's testimony, the incident happened in February 2022 after the victim, then age 21, had spent some time with her father.
The father invited his daughter to spend the night at his house, and when she accepted, he offered her an Advil PM to help her relax. The victim was awakened later that night, according to the DA, when her father was massaging her buttocks and back.
DA Claims
The DA claimed that when his daughter understood what was happening, the defendant held her arms to the ground and sexually assaulted her. As soon as she broke free, the victim fled the residence and raced to a neighboring family member for assistance.
When police arrived, the woman allegedly claimed them her father had molested her as a child. The defendant entered a plea of guilty to first-degree rape before Suffolk County Judge Karen M. Wilutis on Wednesday.
Attorney's Statement
The victim reported to the authorities that her father had sexually abused her in the past when she was a little child.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney stated in a statement that "not only did this defendant commit a horrifying crime, but he also violated his duty as a father by sexually assaulting his own daughter."
The defendant could receive a sentence of 25 years in jail, according to state sentencing standards. On July 19, he must return to court for sentencing.
