A lawsuit involving a now-fired NYC professor and the NYPD, which is looking into claims that she threatened to "chop up" a reporter with a machete on Tuesday, is currently pending.
Reuven Fenton, a writer for the New York Post, knocked on Shellyne Rodriguez's Bronx apartment door on Tuesday. Rodriguez, who was later fired from Hunter College, is accused of putting a machete to Fenton's neck while following him with the weapon.
Rodriguez was filmed smashing a student group's pro-life display in a viral rant earlier this month, and he requested an interview with her as a result. The NYPD reported Wednesday night that a menacing complaint report was on file, but that no arrests had been made.
Questions regarding a potential conflict of interest in the inquiry or whether another law enforcement agency will be engaged were unanswered by the NYPD.
BLM Demonstration On June 4, 2020
Rodriguez's 2021 civil complaint is related to a BLM demonstration that took place on June 4, 2020, in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx following the murder of George Floyd by then-Minneapolis police officers.
A curfew of 8 o'clock was in effect in NYC at the time. At 7:45 p.m., Rodriguez alleged the NYPD intentionally cornered them and forbade the demonstrators from dispersing in time for the curfew.
The lawsuit claims that the NYPD imprisoned 250 individuals that evening, including Rodriguez, in cramped conditions amid the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In court documents from last March, the NYPD refuted the allegations.
The plaintiffs' attorneys' letter, dated May 19, asking for a conference to discuss discovery conflicts on May 30 or 31, was the most recent document filed. In the meanwhile, Fenton discussed the altercation on "Hannity" on Tuesday night.
