Dogecoin won't let go of Elon Musk: In the future, Tesla will also accept payments in the dog currency for merchandise items.

Elon Musk has announced that Tesla will test accept payment in Dogecoin. The CEO of Tesla Motors Announced on Twitter. Musk says in the post that Tesla will make "some" merchandise available for the Dogecoin test and then see how the project develops.

Musk - known for his sometimes brief but influential tweets - does not provide any further information. It is therefore both possible that the payment with Dogecoin will be stopped again and that it will be extended. It is completely unclear whether vehicles can also be paid for with it at some point. The extent to which the decision was discussed with the rest of those responsible at Tesla is unknown.

The announcement by Musks alone has already resulted in a price gain for Dogecoin. The cryptocurrency has risen from 0.16 USD to up to 0.19 USD (14 euro to up to 19 euro). This means that the currency has gained almost a third of its value in one fell swoop just through Musk's tweet. In the past, Musk has been accused several times of influencing the rates of cryptocurrencies with tweets. To what extent Musk himself holds Dogecoin is unknown.

The merchandise items include a belt buckle with a Texas star and Tesla symbol, a whistle in a Cybertruck design, and various models of Tesla vehicles. The Semi truck is also available as a model. In Tesla's US shop, there is still no reference to the payment option via Dogecoin.

The Dogecoin was originally founded as a fun project but is now traded like other cryptocurrencies. The currency is a so-called meme coin, as the symbol is a Shiba Inu, which has become known through various memes on the Internet.
