Casey Rivara had recently started working at his kids’ school. He was driving his children, an 11-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy, back home from their swim practice when he saw a family of ducks struggling to cross the road. The duck and its ducklings were finding it extremely difficult to walk across the busy intersection without getting struck.
The 41-year-old saw it as an opportunity to teach his kids kindness. He parked the car on the road and got to help the duck and its ducklings walk across the road. He shooed the birds, guiding them to the other side of the road while ensuring the other vehicles weren’t driving over them.
The crowd, witnessing the Rivara’s appreciatory actions, clapped and cheered for him. He was returning back to his car when something unexpected happened.
A car, driven by a teen, hit Rivara and sent him flying.
A 12-year-old boy, who had witnessed the whole incident, told Yahoo News that nobody saw the car coming. “All I remember is the sound and then him flying across the intersection. His shoes and one of his socks were right in front of our car,” he added.
Rivara’s wife, Angel Chow, shared that she is honored to know her beloved husband died, positively impacting others. She was overwhelmed by the thousands of heartfelt messages she received from friends, family, and even strangers.
Meanwhile, the 17-year-old who hit Rivara, is free to go because he didn’t break any laws, according to the Police.
Car Accidents are responsible for around 1.3 million deaths in the world. I can’t imagine the number of families affected by accidents due to rash driving, drunk driving, talking over the phone while driving, etc. In the USA, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported an over 10% increase in traffic fatalities in 2021 compared to 2020.
On May 18th, an unfortunate car accident claimed the life of a kind soul while he was doing a good deed. This shows that the government and authorities should take action to control road accidents, mainly because it’s a main form of travel.
