How can one forget to feed a child?

Neglecting a child can have long-lasting effects on their behavior and physical health. Such children might have anxiety, self-esteem issues, depression, and more. Additionally, in most states physically neglecting a child by not providing adequate clothing, nutrition, hygiene, and shelter is punishable.

This topic was highlighted in a recent Reddit post in which a woman forgets to feed her boyfriend’s five-year-old daughter.

Man cancels dinner because his girlfriend didn’t feed his daughter

The author starts the post by saying that his girlfriend of over a year quit her job when she moved in with him and his five-year-old daughter. His girlfriend claimed that she was caring for his daughter, so, she is a stay-at-home mother. Even though the author found his girlfriend’s decision weird, he agreed.

As of now, his girlfriend is still getting used to his daughter’s routine. So he helps her by making a schedule and even set alarms for certain activities, like showering.

At 1 P.M, he texted his girlfriend to give his daughter lunch despite it being on the schedule. He thought of reminding her of that. All she had to do was reheat the food that he had cooked the night before.

When he got home at 5 P.M his daughter was eating chips. Upon further inquiry, he learned that his girlfriend had her friends over and forgot to feed his daughter lunch.

He was livid and confronted his girlfriend who tried to downplay it saying that she forgot after having chatted with her friends. She accused him of judging her for taking the time to get used to his daughter’s schedule. So he refused to cook for her parents who were coming for dinner. His girlfriend shouted at him that he was being harsh and unfair.

What do you think? Was the author wrong for refusing to cook for his girlfriend’s parents? Share your thoughts below.
