How long should one wait to get pregnant after delivery?

Becoming pregnant soon after having a baby can strain the mother’s body due to a lack of time to recover. It’ll also increase the chances of premature birth, decrease pregnancy risks, and more.

So, it’s advisable to have a gap of 18 to 24 months between pregnancies.

This topic was highlighted in a recent Reddit post in which a man wants to have kids back-to-back because he wants a big family despite his wife asking for a break.

“My husband wants a big family, but I can’t keep up”

The author starts the post by saying that her husband had told her he wanted a big family at the beginning of their relationship. She was pregnant when they met and was more than happy to have more children as she also wanted a big family.

After the wedding, she got pregnant soon and had their daughter. Now, their daughter is 16 months old and the author is 30 weeks pregnant with their second child. Although she loves her family and enjoys being a stay-at-home mother, she is exhausted.

Having said that, when she and her husband were building a nursery for their second baby, he joked that they should have bought another crib for the fourth baby. The author took this as an opportunity to ask when he wanted the fourth baby. He replied as soon as they could.

The author got overwhelmed and realized that by then, they would have three kids (one from her previous relationship and two with her present husband), all under the age of three. So she suggested they wait a few years before trying for another baby.

He said absolutely not and that it was her job to fulfill his dream of having a big family. Although she understands his dream and wants the same, her body needs a break. So she wants two to three years of break, but her husband doesn’t like the idea of waiting at all.

The author ends the post by saying that this is the only thing they have disagreed on and that she knows her husband loves when she is the ‘perfect pregnant homemaker.’
