Should one show hatred towards a person for having different likes?

People who enforce their ideologies on others can drain those with them. It can make people think the person trying to impose their ideas doesn't respect or care about their ideas.

This topic was highlighted in a recent Reddit post about a woman, who supports an all-natural look, threw water on a glamorous woman to ‘loosen her up.’

Should one be cruel towards people with ideologies different from theirs?

The author starts the post by saying that he and James have been friends since primary school. James started dating Janet, a woman who believes women shouldn’t use make-up, have piercings, undergo plastic surgery, etc., and be ‘all natural.’

On the other hand, the author’s girlfriend of a 5-year, Nicole, is quite glamorous. In fact, he hasn’t seen her without make-up or dressing up outside the home. He also adds that Nicole has a nose piercing, ear piercings, and a few tattoos. The author says that Nicole is everything Janet hates.

Having said that, James invited the author and Nicole over to his beach house to spend the weekend with Janet and him. During the week, Janet called Nicole several offensive names, including ‘fake’ and ‘sensitive,’ which the latter and the author ignored. But the author asked Janet to stop many times when things started getting awkward.

But the last straw was when Janet poured cold water on Nicole while she was napping, to loosen her up. So the author and Nicole left the beach house.

When should one apologize?

A person should know when it’s their fault and apologize if necessary. However, one shouldn’t say sorry if they haven’t done anything wrong.

So when James called the author asking him to apologize to Janet for ruining her good time, he refused. James apologized to the author for what Janet did and said she would apologize to him after the author apologized to her.

Then, one day, the author ran into James and Janet, and James asked the author to apologize to Janet. Instead, the author called her names. James got furious at the author because of this, and Nicole thinks the author could have handled it better.

What do you think? Was the author wrong not to apologize to Janet? Share your thoughts below.
