According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), 76-year-old Robert Curtis Harvell, Sr. of Somerville, Alabama, was arrested on May 31 on charges related to the alleged sexual abuse of a minor.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Fugitive Unit reports that their office has executed a Grand Jury felony arrest warrant for Harvell per Statute 13A-6-69.1 of Alabama Code 1975 - Sex Offense-Sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old. This charge is classified as a Class A felony under Alabama law.
Harvell’s arrest comes after an investigation conducted by the MCSO’s Criminal Investigation Division in conjunction with the Morgan County Child Advocacy Center and Morgan County DHR. He is currently incarcerated in the Morgan County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
According to a previous LinkedIn bio, Harvell graduated from Ritenour Senior High in 1964 and then joined the U.S. Navy. His profile indicates that he worked at Mechanical Dynamics and Analysis as a government-certified welder, a trade skill he had been cultivating since childhood when he began learning it from his uncle. The work history he lists says that he has held dozens of jobs in the field over the past four or five decades.
The details of what sparked an investigation into Mr. Harvell and resulted in sexual assault charges have not yet been released to the public. However, if found guilty, he could face anywhere from 10 years to life in prison, a fine of up to $60,000, and registration on the sex offenders list for life.
