Chad Earl Carr was arrested by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) on September 1, 2022. Carr was located by Captain Mike Chilson and Ranger John Vance at 255 Stemmons Freeway in Dallas, Texas. He has been charged with the 2007 murder of 19-year-old Brittany McGlone.

Carr was booked into the Wood County Jail on capital murder charges with a $1 million bond in place. His arrest comes after Wood County Sheriff Kelly Cole made it a personal mission to bring the killer of Brittany McGlone to justice and give closure to her family, who have long believed that Carr was the one who killed their beloved family member.

Brittany was murdered on May 4, 2007, at her boyfriend’s home near Lake Winnsboro in Texas. She had gone to his house to sleep after an overnight shift at work. While other members of the household departed, Brittany remained at the home, sleeping. At some point during the day, she was sexually assaulted and bludgeoned to death. She died of massive head trauma. Her body was found that afternoon when her boyfriend and his father returned from picking up a relative at the airport.

Members of the family passed polygraph tests and possessed solid alibis for the time of the murder. They were ruled out as suspects in Brittany’s death. Carr, however, failed his polygraph test and has a substantial police record. At the time he was dating the sister of Brittany’s boyfriend. He has long been the subject of speculation by family and friends but until now, was never named as a suspect by law enforcement.
